Results: In Flat Out Top Gun, teamwork, resourcefulness, and excellent communication skills are required to turn a flat pack of materials into a plane. Crime Solvers International (CSI) teams take the role of detectives who have to solve a complex crime. A realistic crime scenario is set to the detecting teams and they are bombarded with a massive amount of information, delivered in a variety of methods. Taped emergency calls, crime scene videos, filmed suspect interviews, photographs, autopsy reports, transcripts, forensic evidence and more all serve to confuse and mislead the detectives. Their task is to sift through the information to solve the crime.

Results: This fun experiential business game demands team collaboration for successful problem solving. Participants develop skills in prioritising information, critically analysing and effectively discussing possible findings to collectively draw conclusions and establish fact. In Trade Winds each team plays the crew of a pirate ship that arrives with a hull full of ‘booty’ to trade. Their goal is to accumulate treasure by building relationships with other traders in port while using their guile to gather vital market information. The game takes place in four cycles, 4 years. Each year commences with teams trading and ends with them returning to port to collect bounty on certain goods. As the game progresses, teams develop relationships with other teams and share gained knowledge. In the Bean Around the World challenge, teams take the role of coffee traders in providing the supply chain from producer to outlet, and finally to the ever-fickle consumer. Teams make money by buying coffee from the suppliers, trading with the other syndicates and then selling coffee blends to the customer at a profit!

From Kenya to the Caribbean, and from Brazil to Borneo, to succeed in the coffee business takes excellent market intelligence and fantastic service, combined with the ability to respond quickly to ever-changing consumer trends and tastes. Teams buy and sell to maximise their reward, experiencing both sides of the customer equation. The game is played over a period of 3 years with the winners being the syndicate which the most cash at the end of the third year.

Guided by the custom-built app, teams play the role of an Expedition Team on a multi-level journey. Fun and engaging challenges earn the team’s points and move them up the levels. The ultimate goal is to successfully travel from Base Camp to the summit and take a celebratory team photo “on the top”. Trust or Bust is an engaging activity themed as the customs area of an international airport, complete with customs officials, arriving passengers and contraband items. Participants are guided through a series of fun experiential activities to learn about the role of facial expressions, body language, congruity of speech and eye assessing cues in relation to trust and communication.

These skills are then put to the test in a hilarious, memorable activity as teams adopt the roles of arriving passengers or the customs officials aiming to detect contraband items. The exercise is reviewed with the content translated to a business context.

In Chain Reaction Table Top teams are supplied with a game board and a set of detailed idea cards which they discuss with their group. They share these ideas with other teams to develop a strategy for their overall contraption. Each team designs, builds and tests a number of simple machines. They join them together and retest. Next they join their series of simple machines to the next teams simple machines and work together to ensure it flows from one to the next. Once the contraption is complete and tested, in a grand finale the device is trigger and cascades through each of the simple machines.

Results: Collaboration between the teams to share knowledge and resources is imperative to success and to extend the limits of creativity. Teams work to develop a common vision, developing a shared strategy which they put into place by applying excellent project and resource management skills. Successful teams understand the task, the cards, assess available resources, make a rough plan and then throughout construction, they appraise, and accordingly adapt and modify their initial plan. In the testing stages teams learn to be persistent in the face of difficulty with an eye for detail in working towards excellence. Chain Reaction develops a true sense of common purpose and a memorable shared experience when their efforts are rewarded with success!

Leadership stories is a leadership game where participants have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. In each story assigned to the game character at the beginning of the game, participants will face leadership challenges and must make the right decisions for each story, weighing the pros and cons, understanding the context and reading between the lines, all in record time.

Results:
With the help of the game, participants can learn about their impact on their team and their results by experiencing several critical situations where they are asked to lead and make decisions. They will understand the importance of different approaches in inspiring and motivating the team, as well as developing the ability to choose the right approach in certain critical situations.

One team must locate a vessel and signal for help to escape an island. As they wait, they must adjust to island life to survive. On a tablet screen is an illustration of an island divided into nine zones. In each zone, they have to handle various issues related to island survival, such as water, weather, first aid, constructing shelters, signalling, and more. Washed-up items will assist them in answering the issues. Using these skills, they will be able to survive.

Teams must learn all aspects to survive. They’ll lose knowledge in other areas if they spend too much time in a zone and will not gain the critical know-how they need if they stay there too little. Once they leave a zone, they may not return. The ship is signalled and rescued successfully by teams that have successfully communicated with it.

Learning outcomes:
Finding the right moment to move to the next zone and staying in the current zone depend on active communication and decision-making to survive the island. Team members learn real survival techniques by collaborating and absorbing knowledge. Escape the Island asks them to look for opportunities to test their teamwork strategies. Teams must determine how best to allocate tasks among themselves to utilise their strengths. A flexible game design allows for a one-hour or more in-depth team development session over three hours.
