How to turn your employees into Brand Ambassadors

08 Jun 2015

[cml_media_alt id='5232']23 How to turn your employees into Brand Ambassadors[/cml_media_alt]

Internationally, many companies choose stars or athletes to represent them as Brand Ambassadors. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods or Ellen DeGeneres were and are representatives of international brands.

If we look at this fact in more detail, celebrities are not the only options in terms of ambassadors that your company should focus on. Look closer to you, right at the desk next to you! Your colleagues are the best ambassadors your company can have.

Companies invest millions of dollars to prepare them to become Brand Ambassadors. To start this process right, your colleagues need to:
• Know what the company’s mission is – what the company wants and how it differentiates itself from the competition;
• Understand the “Brand Promise” and be able to explain the most important elements of the brand identity;
• To implement the “Brand Promise” of the company.

The involvement of Employee Engagement strategies in the creation of Brand Ambassadors is essential. Scarlett Surveys International defines Employee Engagement as “a measure of employees’ emotional attachment to their job, colleagues or company. This, whether negative or positive, influences their desire to learn more and perform.”

It is well known that Employee Engagement is critical for an organization , and the benefits exist on both sides. 2015 comes with a wave of challenges for the strategies of the HR department in terms of its development.

However, in order to turn them into Brand Ambassadors, we come with some tips:

1. Prioritize Brand Awareness
A study conducted by Gallup on a sample of 3,000 employees, brought to light a shocking truth: only 41% of employees agree with the following statement: “I know the purpose of the organization and what makes us different from the competition.” The conclusion of the study is that more than half of the employees are not aware of the power of the company’s brand. In this case, leadership of the “learning by doing” type is the most appropriate, but do not leave aside other types of activities to increase the company’s brand awareness: event or teambuilding activities that bring forward this component.

2. Stories with branding
The stories told by employees about the company’s management, good practices and the company’s impact on their lives are precious and turn them into Brand Ambassadors. From family, to friends or people met on trips, employees tell their story and that of your company.
In a company where Brand Awareness is properly achieved, even the employees’ families become Brand Ambassadors (through the alliance) :D.

3. Company culture
In order for employees to be proud Brand Ambassadors, they also need the right context, and in this case, the context is given by the company’s organizational culture. The company must consider all the details of creating and maintaining this culture: from small things to big things, from the company’s Social Media activity, to events specially created to promote this culture. The employees who deliver the “Brand Promise” of the company must be recognized for this, and from here to being even more motivated to continue doing it, the road is simple.

In conclusion, the employee brand, as well as the actions necessary to build and manage it, are powerful tools that can be used to add value to the company through the HR department.

5 secrets of employee happiness

27 May 2015

[cml_media_alt id='5195']21 How to keep your employees happy[/cml_media_alt]

Employee engagement and their happiness are topics addressed more and more most often in the context of modern management. Many studies have been carried out in which the results speak for themselves – only 13% of employees are engaged. A low engagement leads to a decrease in productivity, waste of resources and a “toxic” environment that no one wants to be a part of.

The studies also revealed a top 10 of the factors that influence employee happiness:

1. Appreciation
2. A good relationship with colleagues
3. A good balance between work and personal life
4. A good relationship with superiors
5. Financial stability of the company
6. Career development
7. Job security
8. An attractive salary
9. An attractive job
10. Company Values

Achieving success is not always easy. As a leader, making sure that your employees are always engaged and happy is a challenge that has the following 5 secrets:

1. Passion
The basis of any productive office and the answer of every leader when it comes to productivity and engagement. Passion keeps the enthusiasm alive when it comes to the transition from one project to another.

2. Feedback
Give employees feedback on an ongoing basis, whether it’s praise or constructive feedback. Thus they know that what they are doing is right or wrong, and a confident person is a happy person and happiness increases productivity.

3. Collaboration
The workspace must be collaborative and creative: whiteboard, tables, chairs – all this to encourage teamwork. (link collaborative spaces)

4. Positivism
Employee engagement is also due to a pleasant, fun and positive environment. There are days when not all employees can be happy every day, but it is important to create a behavior on both sides to turn any day into a positive one.

5. The objectives
A company that has clearly defined objectives gives employees the opportunity to connect their work to those objectives, thus making room for the goal. Having clearly established objectives provides the opportunity for employees to aim for success.

What is the result of combining a well-defined leadership style with a vision of the company based on passion and positivity and a group of motivated people? The success!

How does the purpose of an organization influence employee engagement?

12 May 2015

[cml_media_alt id='5148']19. how does the purpose of an organization affect employee engagement[/cml_media_alt]

The goal becomes an opportunity, it basically gives the opportunity for the leader to say “Hey, let’s try something new!” and thus offers the possibility for his team to innovate. In order to innovate, you have to give people the chance to think differently, give them the freedom to come up with different opinions to discover new ways of doing things. Create the right framework and people will come to innovate.

The success of an organization consists in the fact that people know what they do and why they do it. In short, the “goal” is the action that brings impact and makes the organization evolve.

The moment people know the purpose of their actions, they become much more involved because they know their impact. For a goal to be very clear, the following three questions must have simple and clear answers:

1. What is our vision?
It is, indeed, an aspirational question. In this case, we can make a simple parallel with that moment when a teenager wonders what is the most suitable career path. Vision emerges from a sense of purpose. Form that “why”.

2. What is our mission?
Most of the time, this question has a simple answer because it involves looking at what you are doing. Mission is that “what.” For example, UNIVERSUM Events’ mission is to “increase energy and passion in organizations” through our activities.

3. What are our values?
The vision or mission cannot be valid if they are not supported by strong values. Values shape the organizational culture. But people want more than appropriate behavior; they want to work in an environment where cooperation and collaboration are important. They want their activity to count and be recognized. Values reinforce certain behaviors that employees value.

If these questions have their answers, allow time in meetings to discuss them. These questions raise an “outside-the-box” thinking, the definition of the goal is a leadership exercise suitable to be debated in company meetings. Leaders can influence the goal, but employees are the ones who have ownership of the goal.

3 basic principles of an effective meeting

28 Apr 2015

17. 3 basic principles of an effective meeting

Certainly, we all agree that being late for a session/meeting/conference is not a pleasant thing. Time is your best friend, but how do you make sure it doesn’t turn into enemy number one?
Companies organize many meetings – weekly, departmental, project, sub-area, etc. – that’s why I penciled in these 3 basic principles to create an efficient meeting:

1 Objective, 1 Mission
Most meeting agendas are scheduled to the minute, and in this case the moderator has several goals to achieve in the same day. The simplest solution? Limiting objectives to one.
It is also important that the objective be realistically achievable in a single day, otherwise, an idea would be that the objective can be achieved in a series of events planned over time.

The Appropriate Moderator
Finding the right moderator can be quite a challenge depending on the format of the meeting and the objectives: interviews or panels, debates or interactive discussions with the participants.
The conclusion is simple: the more suitable the event format is to your style, the easier it will be to manage time, due to the fact that you best understand the format of the meeting and its objectives.

Focus on the right thing
When the meeting does not go according to the agenda, most of the wrong points are “sacrificed”. One of the most important objectives to be achieved is the outcome of the participants, in addition to interaction and networking. Therefore, some question marks intervene, such as: “Is it ok to remove the Q&A session or should we only give it 5 minutes?” or “Is it okay to remove a speaker from the line-up?”.

The participants need to sediment what they have seen, listened to and experienced throughout the day. If they are rushed from one session to another in a short time, this process will diminish or disappear, for these reasons: give time for reflection! 🙂

In conclusion, delays are not to anyone’s liking – from the moderator, who may end up being preoccupied with timing, to the participants who deserve a pleasant experience, to the host of the meeting.

These principles can bring an impact to the productivity of meetings. Implementation is a long process and requires a lot of discipline and consistency, but it ends up making a big difference in the productivity of organizations.

An interactive activity that gathers the participants in a group according to certain criteria, which are projected on a projector to allow them to find common interests and abilities.

4. In the picture
16_7
It is said that one of the greatest assets of a company is its people. In the picture is the perfect way to demonstrate how people work together, reminding how important each person in the company is. They will take pictures on a colorful background, and during the conference the pictures are edited and will appear towards the end on the big screens in a crescendo number. Thus, the company logo or a key message during the conference is formed.

5. Making the News
16_3
For 2-3 hours, the teams receive the challenge to overcome their limits, to put teamwork into practice, leaving the comfort zone and “landing” in the world of publications. It is a method to reinforce the content of the conference or explore pertinent business issues, which focuses collective creativity on everything relevant to the company, such as change management, the future, reaffirming the company’s values.

6. Screen Text

Screen Text allows participants to explore company issues in a funny context. Each team starts with a DVD player and a short video clip, but the key factor: the original dialogue was removed from the film. The climax consists of the live presentations of the teams, after they have built together the scenario and logical dialogues.

7. Boom Time
16_6
Boom time is a unique ice-breaker or energizer for a conference, unifying teams as they create engaging music. Equipped with a Boomwhacker, the participants follow a high-tech visual interface, which guides them in collaboration to generate a special symphony.

8. Sound Crowd
16_4
Sound Crowd is a powerful ice-breaker for the conference that trains each individual participant. Imagine the result where everyone interacts and has fun in a unique format, where no verbal communication is necessary – just body language, enthusiasm, solidarity, fun and lots of smiles.

9. A.C.E

Innovation is an essential value for many successful companies, and ACE presents the vehicle that tests the inventiveness of teams. ACE combines elements of Mythbusters, Scrap Heap Challenge and Top Gear to create a truly unique concept: highly customized – a vehicle made from recyclable materials that defies gravity.

Digital team building activities are the most successful when they combine emotion, transform the traditional method, but keep its essence and when they are just a click away from being the most interesting experiences.

6 Inspirational Films for the Team

15 Apr 2015

[cml_media_alt id ='4588']15. 6 inspirational films for the team[/cml_media_alt]

That feeling of energy, joy, inspiration or excitement that a great movie can create is always amazing. Movies are a great way to connect people to an experience based on emotion. These have been used for years by coaches and managers to inspire and reinforce the ideas or values they want to see in their team.

If you are looking for a perfect way to promote team-building, to develop the dynamics of a team or simply to do a debriefing based on leadership experiences, this list will be useful to you:

INVIRONABLE
“Undefeated” is one of the most inspirational films about creating a good team in certain critical circumstances.
The film presents the portrait inspired by the first days of Nelson Mandela as president, aware that from a racial and economic point of view the country remained divided due to apartheid. The film summarizes the way in which he associates with the leader of the South African rugby team, being convinced that he can unify his people through the universal language of sport. Represented by the slogan, “One Team, One Country”, Mandela set the goal of winning the incredible World Cup Championship competition. Thus, the film describes how Mandela established his leadership spirit as president.

COACH CARTER
Based on an incredible true story, the film introduces Coach Ken Carter, a top basketball player who returns to his hometown high school to coach a dysfunctional team.
The team had many conflicts, such as lack of discipline, acts of aggression, physical attack, family dysfunction, lack of cohesion, use of inappropriate language, poor academic performance, and yet the players have a contagious love for the game and each athlete can associate with the need to be part of something bigger and better than the experiences on the streets they lived on. This becomes a driving force in Carter’s attempt to encourage and teach the Richmond basketball team the value, hard work, discipline, courage, how to overcome adversity and find purity and the possibility of becoming an athlete and a student. successful, as well as a team with a mission and objectives.

As soon as the players begin to accept each other and trust each other, they become victorious in their pursuit of ideals. Along the way, their trust is put to the test several times. Situations arise that raise questions for those involved, but each time the focus for the common goal of winning the championship allows them to overcome problems. THE MIRACLE
The Miracle is the heartwarming story behind one of the greatest moments in sports history – the 1980 Olympic victory of the United States hockey team against the Soviet Union.
The film follows the development of the men’s hockey team that led to victory in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid under the guidance of coach Herb Brooks, being an excellent example of the evolution of a team through the 4 main stages of formation conceptualized by Bruce Tuckman : Formation, Creation, Norms, Performance. Finally, the film portrays positive values of team work, discipline, courage, determination and overcoming limits in order to rise from the position of the underdog to that of the champion.
Watch the movie trailer here.

APOLLO 13
Apollo 13 is, with the exception of small details, a faithful reproduction of the mission to bring home the 3 astronauts stuck in space, a superb alternation between the action from space and the efforts of NASA.
As a result of the movie Apollo 13, the phrase “Failure is not an option” was an inspiration for the vision and mission of many groups.
Engineers and astronauts represent rational leadership during a crisis. In essence, the film is also the perfect example of virtual teams. Gene Kranz (Ed Harris), in charge of flight operations in Houston, and Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), lunar mission commander display their leadership skills when an explosion occurs on the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Through teamwork, the ingenuity and rational process of these leaders solve an almost impossible problem.
Krantz and Lovell maintain control in a chaotic situation, which inspires confidence among the group. Apollo 13 outlines the fact that, although leaders want loyalty and passion, it is important to secure the trust of their group first.
Watch the movie trailer here.

FAITH IN VICTORY
“Belief in victory” is the story of a coach who, in his six years of high school football, never led his team, the Shiloh Eagles, to a winning season.
Grant Taylor is a Christian high school football coach who uses his faith to fight his fear of failure. After learning that he and his wife are dealing with infertility, Grant discovers that a group of fathers are secretly organized to reject him as head coach. Devastated by the circumstances, he prays to God in despair. When Grant receives a message from an unexpected visitor, he searches for a stronger purpose for his football team. When faced with incredible situations, the team must stand up to the greatest test of strength and courage. What will take place is a dynamic story of the battle between faith and fear. “Faith in victory” is a powerful experience for the whole team, inspiring them to live together with faith and give their best at any moment.

15 Apr 2015

[cml_media_alt id ='4582']14. Benefits of CSR for organizations[/cml_media_alt]

INNOVATION
The culture of innovation in companies is a debated topic, but innovation in the context of social responsibility brings a huge benefit to both organizations and society. For example, the Unilever company using the “lens of sustainability” (lens of sustainability) as described by Geoff McDonald – Unilever Global VP for HR, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability, managed to innovate new products: a hair conditioner that uses less the water.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
The non-involvement of employees within the company is a very big disadvantage. The Sara Lee Company created cross-functional work teams globally to create a strategy for sustainability, and the Solo Cup Company created a “Sustainability Action Network” to guide employees to get involved in community CSR activities.

CUSTOMER COMMITMENT
The best example for this benefit is the Walmart company which created an advertising campaign with the role of raising awareness about the environment and people’s choices in terms of purchased products. The message being sent is a positive one, the communication between the client and the organization is much easier.

COST REDUCTION
The first step in getting involved in sustainability is the simple mindset of cost reduction. Whether we are talking about the reduced use of packaging or energy, these collective cost cuts bring highly visible results.

BRAND DIFFERENTIATORS
If in the past CSR was a simple method to differentiate yourself as a brand, now things have become more complicated. For example, the Coca Cola vs. Pepsi is one of the longest rivalries, they want to get the biggest market share. Both Coca Cola and Pepsi adopt similar but at the same time different CSR strategies: both companies have strategies for reduced water use or use sustainable packaging.

Indeed, the effort put into a CSR activity is great and the results are seen in the long term, but it certainly directs the economy to a favorable area.
