Gala Awards: 3 Methods to give it a Refresh

14 Aug 2015

[cml_media_alt id='5510']35 Gala Awards[/cml_media_alt]

In the 10 years of experience in organizing corporate events, I often received the question “How can we make the Gala Awards more catchy?”. This is where the creative and innovative approach of the organizer comes in.

The objectives are the celebration, recognition and motivation of the participants, all wrapped in a super atmosphere.

AGENDA
This is based on the “Short & Simple”. When you organize a Gala for a large number of participants, a very precise agenda without too many delays is a step towards the success of the event.

Most of the time, the Gala Awards include dinner, so it must be included in the agenda. For the dinner, a MC is needed to maintain the atmosphere.

It is recommended that the festive toast be done in an out-of-the-box manner, taking the whole festivity into an exciting area for the participants: music, visual elements, videos. Changes like this will surprise even those who participate in this gala every year.

WINNERS
Without extending the agenda too much, it is important to have as many awardees as possible. For example, you can add new award categories or have a list of nominees.

The gratitude brought by colleagues is a trend adopted more and more. The award can take the form of a title such as “People’s Choice Award”. Also, if there was a “Most Valuable Player” award in the past years, it is recommended that it be presented and handed out by the winners of the past years. Imagine the impact on the punisher when he is presented by his colleagues in a personal way.

AWARDS
Give winners prizes that can be reused. From various gadgets to handicrafts customized in the colors of the brand can be a few examples. You can also consider prizes that are thematic with the event or the location.

When the participants feel good, have fun and are involved in the event, they are definitely prepared for success. Are you planning an Awards Gala? Write to us if you want a memorable event for your team.

6 Ideas for Company Day

14 Aug 2015

[ cml_media_alt id='5506']34 Idea Company Day[/cml_media_alt]

“The first step out of the gate has to be knowing where you want to end up. What do you really want from your company?”
– Stan Slap

The answer to the question reflects the company’s culture.
As we mentioned in a previous article, Company Day is a perfect way to create a unique experience for your colleagues, the possibility of creating a bond between them. It helps the team to relax, to be charged with positive energy and offers the possibility of offering some rewards for the success of their involvement.

Seen as part of a team development process, Company Day can help to improve teamwork and communication between its members.

There are many options of activities suitable for Company Day, depending on the desired result.

Organizing the Company Day outdoors is a good choice, especially if it happens in a summer garden, at the swimming pool or on the edge of a lake. Below are different organization options:

COMPANY FESTIVAL
What does a Company Festival day look like to you? It can take the form of a Winter, Summer or why not, Beer Festival.

FAMILY DAY
What is more beautiful than a sunny day spent with colleagues and their families? 🙂 Activities to suit everyone, from cooking to activities with sports or inflatables for children.

WORLD RECORD
Do you like the idea of your company’s team breaking a world record? If so, you can create the perfect setting for it on Company Day. You can gather supporters – family, friends – and even the press to put everything under the spotlight.

VALUES DAY
To improve the organizational culture, we suggest you organize Company Day through the values filter: activities specific to values, location branding, contests or Gala Awards.

FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN
Another unique way to celebrate Company Day is to give it a CSR twist. A fundraiser for a noble cause is a method that has an immediate impact, both on society and on your colleagues.

OPEN DAY
On the Day of your Company you can open your doors! 🙂 It is a suitable method especially if you are preparing to start an internship program, thus offering the possibility that the future team of interns can observe your organizational culture.

If you plan to organize the Company Day, our team is at your disposal with a variety of activities suitable for your company!

TB or not TB?

05 Aug 2015

[cml_media_alt id=' 5441']33 TB or not TB (ro)[/cml_media_alt]

Teambuilding activities have the power to inspire your participants to work better as a team to achieve a common goal.

If you haven’t organized a team building for your team this year, this autumn is suitable for this. Besides the fact that it is the last quarter of the year, and the participants will be more motivated to achieve their goals, but also because since the beginning of the year, in your company, a series of moments have happened that may have put the teams to the test .

Below are just some of the reasons why we encourage you to organize a team building for your team:

• Fun – a team building, first of all it brings positive energy and a lot of fun!

• Improves communication – adding to the fun part and the efficiency part in communication, your company can have a complete team building

• A Common Experience – there are studies that show that a common experience lived with friends or colleagues strengthens the relationships between them. It is exactly like when you go to a concert and meet new people, at the end you are no longer strangers, but at least you have a common experience.

• Promotes Interaction – teambuilding activities encourage interaction between people, overcoming the barriers imposed by the position held in the company.

• Change – if there are changes in your company, a team building can create the perfect framework to make the transition to them. Whether we are talking about increasing the team, merging with another company or changing the management team, team building is an excellent method to deal with change brilliantly.

• Celebrate together – maybe your company won an award, has an anniversary or any other occasion that can be celebrated with a unique team building.

So, this fall, freshmen and… happy participants are counted! Where else can this year’s success be celebrated with an exceptional Christmas Party !

Why… Teambuilding?

22 Jul 2015

[cml_media_alt id='5389']31 Why Teambuilding[ /cml_media_alt]

A team building activity is important because the success of your company starts with a team vision and culture.

In any organization, the first step in improving the teamwork culture is the creation of a bond based on trust between team members. Everything starts with effective communication and showing appreciation among colleagues, and here teambuilding plays an important role.

There are many examples of teams that are successful due to their efforts. Is your team one of them?
Many companies find that their employees who work in a collaborative harmony achieve their goals in a much more efficient way. The morale of the team is vital for the success of the company, a low morale must raise some question marks. Team building activities are crucial for maintaining a positive environment.

MEDIATION OF CONFLICTS
Conflicts can often appear within a team, especially if it is composed of different personalities. It is recommended to introduce periodic (monthly or quarterly) teambuilding activities within these teams. The best activities for mediating conflicts are those where the participants get to know each other on a personal level, for example: Creative Juices, Bridging the Divide or Speak Up, Speak Out.

DEVELOPMENT OF TRUST
Trust is definitely a crucial element and even more so as teamwork is necessary to achieve the objectives. The development of mutual trust between team members takes the team to a higher level in terms of productivity and efficiency. Here are some examples of activities for developing team trust: Trust or Bust, CSI or Survival.

IMPROVEMENT OF COMMUNICATION
A suitable team building activity can help improve communication within a team. The group of participants will be divided into teams and they will have a problem to solve, the activity can be either competitive or collaborative. Working together to find ideas is a communication exercise that will push participants to work together to achieve a common goal. In the debriefing session, the conclusions can be translated into everyday life with the problems encountered and the results obtained. In our activity portfolio you can find activities with a strong communication component, but if you want an activity with an artistic twist, you can choose Big Picture< /a>, for non-verbal communication – Mini Olympics or an alternative communication, on musical notes Orchestrate.

KEEP A RECURRENCE
Teambuilding activities have an immediate effect for the team if they are periodic activities. Organizing a team building once a year brings results, but in the long term, and the productivity of the team is affected.
Make sure that you have included team building activities in the annual strategy. These must be relevant for the company’s business model and for the entire team. We recommend that you plan everything with a task-force team for smooth implementation, otherwise you risk not having a structure and a clear message.

Whether you are thinking of organizing a teambuilding summer, for a large group, with digital twist or by CSR, the UNIVERSUM team is ready to offer an experience that will not be forgotten!

Why a diverse team is the key to success

22 Jul 2015

[cml_media_alt id='5386']30 Why a diverse team is the key to success[/cml_media_alt]

It can be seen how diversity influences both companies and internal processes, as well as relationships with clients, suppliers or other external stakeholders. Therefore, the following question arises: why is it recommended for companies to focus on diversity?

Diversity comes with a series of elements: cultural, linguistic, religious, social status or age diversity, and its impact can be beneficial to the organization if it is approached appropriately. There is a thin line between the advantages and disadvantages brought by diversity, that is why diversity management is very important.

Why is a diverse team beneficial to your organization?

INCREASES CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
With so many different and diverse minds, out-of-the-box solutions are more common. Each member of the team contributes in his own style to brainstorming, ideation sessions or innovation processes.

INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY
Diversity provides the right context for different personalities and talents to work for a common goal using a set of skills that strengthens the relationship between team members and increases its productivity.

DIVERSE EXPERIENCE
The uniqueness of your colleagues’ experiences are strongly beneficial for teamwork. Each team member has strengths and weaknesses derived from previous experiences. If they are properly managed, they can complement the weak points, creating a unique harmony, and the team’s impact should be immediate.

LEARNING AND GROWTH
Another benefit brought by diversity is the personal growth of employees. Exposure to new ideas, different cultures and perspectives can lead each team member to a higher level of knowledge. Spending time with a culturally diverse team can break certain subconscious barriers dictated by ethnocentrism and xenophobia.

CONCLUSION
Diversity can influence the base of any organization, a diverse team if not managed properly can create unwanted effects. So, ignoring the effects or the existence of diversity in a society that is constantly growing will only lead to loss of productivity and, most importantly, to loss of profitability.

When teambuilding can take an unexpected turn

08 Jul 2015

[ cml_media_alt id='5352']27 how teambuilding can take unexpected turns[/cml_media_alt]

Annually, companies allocate substantial budgets to teambuilding activities. The team development process is critical for companies, and in this industry there are many companies that offer a wide range of experiences – some positive, others less positive due to discrepancies in understanding the goals and expectations of the teams.

All this has led to confusion among companies and their employees regarding what a teambuilding is, its results and how it should be .

What are the most unfortunate teambuilding scenarios that come to your mind? Here is a selection:
• The participants have no input regarding the activity of the event;
• Participation is mandatory;
• The environment in which the event takes place is not friendly;
• The tone of the entire event is too serious and authoritative, without social and fun elements;
• Activities focus only on what is wrong with the team (company);
• The event is not personalized;
• The activities are extremely demanding and not at all suitable for the age and physical condition of the group of participants;
• The activities are not collaborative;
• Water, food and breaks between activities are insufficient;
• The person responsible for the group in the decision-making structure is not present;
• The expectations of the participants are not met, on the contrary, they leave more disconnected and demoralized regarding teamwork.

Of course, these are some extreme examples of SO NOT. On this occasion, you can realize what you want to avoid when planning or implementing a teambuilding activity and make sure that your team gets the best teambuilding experience.

Recently, HSBC dismissed a group of employees who published a video in which they claimed to be Islamic militants and performed a beheading. This video was part of a teambuilding exercise.

Therefore, the choice of activities suitable to the team’s profile, as well as of the teambuilding supplier, are two of the most important elements for the success of a corporate event. After establishing them, the briefing and waiting of the participants play a primary role until the completion of the entire activity.

O oportunitate care creste engagementul si imbunatateste lucrul in echipa

Tehnologia – evolutia tehnologiei a adus impact si in industria evenimentelor corporate, adaugand multe elemente de oferit.

Gamification – merge mana in mana cu tehnologia.

What brought you to this level cannot bring you to the next level (and about the importance of culture)

24 Jun 2015

[cml_media_alt id ='5292']25 What brought you to this level cannot bring you to the next level (and about the importance of culture)[/cml_media_alt]

We all have more and more ambitious business goals to work towards. But how do we make sure that we reach these ever higher goals? Most of the time, the answer lies in the mindset, in a mind open to new perspectives and in having access to applied knowledge.

But how do you make sure that your people are mentally prepared and in terms of know-how?
One way is to participate in conferences that will give you new perspectives to see things.

That’s why today we want to present you some take-aways that we extracted from the last 2 conferences organized by us this spring, the Innovation Summit and the Brand Managers Summit.
One of the preferred definitions of innovation in the view of Domenico Ventura, Ex – Global Head Consumer Sensory Innovation – Tobacco Vaporisers BAT and speaker at Innovation Summit 2015 is “Innovation = from idea to profit”. It seems natural in this case that one of the hottest questions in the current business environment is how to become more innovative as an organization, especially in this VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) environment. The answer seems to lie primarily in a strong culture in this direction, and hence the very important role played by HR professionals in this equation.

Therefore, a healthy culture that encourages divergent opinions, diversity of experience and knowledge within teams is an important ingredient in the fusion of productive innovation processes.

Markus Nordberg, Head of Resources Development CERN, told us how stimulating collaboration and competition in a sustainable way and absorbing risks by working in mixed parallel teams are recipes preferred by CERN scientists, given the high degree of uncertainty and investments allocated to research.
All this, together with a great diversity among the researchers involved, allows them to deliver radically innovative technologies and scientific theories.

A culture of innovation is also supported by stimulating creativity.

I learned at the event how many different perspectives you can visualize if you use a thinking method, such as the “6 thinking hats” or “lateral thinking”, methods presented by Nigel Newman, Global Lifetime Master Trainer at the Edward de Bono foundation. Creative thinking doesn’t have to be hard, on the contrary, it just needs to be directed correctly, Nigel told us.

To these is added an agile implementation of the resulting ideas to capitalize and obtain quick feedback, as Rogier van der Heide, Senior Vice President & Chief Design and Marketing Officer Zumtobel Group.

We can also see an increased interest in innovation in Romania, through the ever-increasing investments that companies make in a culture of innovation and dedicated people.

Regarding a culture of innovation, some key questions are:

  • What is the degree of heterogenization of the teams in terms of knowledge, ideas, background, etc.?
  • How do you encourage collaboration and healthy competition at the team level?
  • How do you encourage creative thinking and the generation of new ideas?
  • Is there a system to encourage employees to agilely implement new ideas?
  • Are there people responsible for innovation within the company?
  • Is innovation a priority for the company? What kind of innovation are you pursuing: incremental or “disruptive”?

Another very important aspect discussed at the Brand Managers Summit is the importance of the human side in building a successful brand and business.

Peter Knapp, Global Creative Officer at Landor and speaker of the event declares:

“Very often business decisions are taken in a rational way based on economic and operational factors, but often those small details that influence consumer decisions are impacted. Exactly these decisions can have a very high cost.
A brand is a decision of loyalty and preference.”

How we reach the next level depends on each individual business, but it is our duty to constantly reinvent ourselves in order to deliver even more value to even more customers.

5 Reasons to Organize Company Day

24 Jun 2015

[ cml_media_alt id='5287']24 5 Reasons to organize Company Day[/cml_media_alt]

Company Day overcomes the barriers of a fun day spent with colleagues and reaches a level where it brings benefits for self-knowledge, bonding with the team and understanding the company. Whether it’s a 600-person event or a 70-person event, it can have a significant impact on your colleagues.

The 10 years of experience in organizing corporate events have shown us that trends are returning and companies are investing more and more in the well-being of employees and in the creation of interpersonal relationships.
Company Day is a perfect way to create a unique experience for your colleagues, the possibility of creating a bond between them.

Company Day helps the Morale of your Colleagues
Over the course of a year, some walls end up being erected between the people in the departments. Company Day can “tear down” these walls, whether we are talking about the closeness between colleagues or the elimination of some barriers between hierarchical levels.

Company Day is a good opportunity to show appreciation
Nothing is more welcome than appreciation for a job well done. We all know that the economy is not going through the best period, that’s why Company Day is a very good opportunity to share the appreciation of your colleagues for their involvement and efforts.

Company Day but also Family Day
The impact brought by families on the professional life of your colleagues is great. Therefore, organizing your Company Day and inviting the families of your colleagues is a sign of appreciation and understanding for them. Think of all the children who will realize how attractive the place where mom and dad work is.

Company Day strengthens Teamwork
It is a very good opportunity to surprise your colleagues with light teambuilding activities: Mini Olympics, Flat Out or Big Picture are only some activities that can strengthen the relations between departments. Imagine a senile race, timed with smiles and applause at the end. Isn’t that how you can visualize all that energy? 😀

Company Day also brings personal rewards
Company Day also brings a personal reward. This day may be the only day of the year when you can see hundreds of smiles that could not have happened without the help of your company.

So, if you still haven’t planned anything for this year’s Company Day, think about the benefits that I have presented to you. Invest in smiles (and lots of sun cream)! 😀
