What is Soccer Nations?

Soccer Nations is a sports-themed outdoor team-building activity designed as a GPS-based adventure in which teams explore countries, cultures, and challenges inspired by the world of football.

Participants select flags on the map, reach marked locations and unlock missions through which they can score ‘goals’. The challenges aren’t just about football; they also include general knowledge, gastronomy, country facts, photo tasks, and strategic decisions.

It is an energetic activity that is easy to understand and very well suited to mixed teams, as each participant can contribute through their knowledge, guidance, creativity, observation, communication or quick decision-making.

How does it work?

Participants are divided into teams and set off on a GPS route, where they can see several flags and countries marked on the map. Each team decides which country to visit, reaches the designated location and completes the associated challenges.

The missions may include questions about the country in question, its culture, food, drinks, football or themed photo challenges. More difficult challenges can earn more ‘goals’, so teams need to choose wisely: do they stay in one area for more points, or move quickly to another country?

At the end, the scores are tallied, the teams find out how many goals they’ve scored, and the experience can be rounded off with a competitive penalty shoot-out, designed to be fun even for those who aren’t necessarily football fans.

The brief also mentions this optional ending, with a twist that doesn’t just favour natural players.

When is Soccer Nations the right choice?

Soccer Nations is ideal for companies looking for an active, competitive and easy-to-understand outdoor team-building activity, with a familiar theme and plenty of group energy. It’s a good choice when you want to foster rapid interaction between participants, whilst also putting teams in situations that require strategy, collaboration and decision-making.

It works very well for mixed teams, cross-departmental groups and international settings, because the theme of countries, cultures and diversity adds a broader dimension than football itself.

It blends in naturally with:

  • outdoor team-building activities with a focus on energy and competition
  • off-site events or retreats with a main daytime activity
  • kick-off meetings focusing on shared objectives, strategy and performance
  • engagement programmes for mixed or international teams
  • corporate events with a sporting, global or multicultural theme
  • team-building days, followed by socialising, dinner or a party

Why does it deliver results?

The format is inclusive because success doesn’t depend solely on sporting knowledge. A good team needs people who notice details, think strategically, have a broad general knowledge, communicate quickly, manage their time effectively and come up with creative ideas for the photography challenges.

That is why Soccer Nations is more than just a sports-themed game. It is an activity that explores how teams make decisions together, how they divide up their roles, and how they strike a balance between risk, speed and precision in order to score as many ‘goals’ as possible.
