What is Quickfire Olympics?

Quickfire Olympics is a team-building activity inspired by the spirit of the Olympic Games, in which teams compete in a series of mental, creative and physical challenges, managed via an interactive app.

Participants choose the challenges they wish to tackle and devise their strategy based on time, difficulty, cost and points.

Participants take on the role of teams of athletes and must choose wisely which challenges to tackle, make the most of their resources and score as many points as possible within the time limit.

Each challenge has a different level of difficulty, cost and reward, so success depends not only on energy, but also on strategy.

It is not a traditional sporting competition. The Olympic spirit sets the theme, pace and excitement of the game, but the result stems from collaboration, communication, trust and the way the team utilises its strengths.

How does it work?

The activity begins with an energetic briefing, during which the teams are told the aim of the game, the rules and how to use the app.

Each team is given a tablet, game materials and resources, and then gets into the spirit of things with an initial challenge that sparks the Olympic spirit and builds team energy.

Teams choose from a range of mental, creative and physical challenges. Some challenges can be tackled individually, others in pairs, in small groups, with the whole team or by collaborating with other teams.

As time goes on, the pace picks up and the teams begin to take on more difficult challenges for greater rewards. The scores can be tracked in real time, and the finale features the announcement of the winners, the podium and the Olympic medals.

When is Quickfire Olympics the right choice?

Quickfire Olympics is ideal when you want an energetic, competitive and easy-to-understand activity that quickly gets everyone on the same page.

It’s a good choice for companies looking for an experience with a sporty vibe, but without the pressure of a traditional physical competition.

It works very well for mixed teams, large groups or participants with different levels of energy and ability, as the challenges are varied and allow for different contributions: logic, strategy, creativity, coordination, communication or active participation.

It blends in naturally with:

  • team-building activities with a sporting or competitive theme
  • company days and corporate events with a team spirit
  • off-site events and retreats with a dynamic main activity
  • kick-off events focusing on performance, objectives and team spirit
  • engagement programmes for mixed or cross-departmental teams
  • events that continue with award ceremonies, socialising or a party

Why does it deliver results?

Quickfire Olympics works because it uses one of the clearest and most universal metaphors for teamwork: the Olympics.

Participants immediately grasp the concept of events, athletes, performance, scores, the podium and medals, and this setting quickly generates energy, focus and friendly competition.

At the same time, the challenge isn’t about who runs the fastest or who is the fittest. Teams win based on how they choose their tasks, divide up their roles, manage their time and decide how much risk is worth taking to score more points.

Some challenges require logical thinking, whilst others call for creativity, communication, coordination or the courage to get involved.

A key advantage is that the activities and the interface can be customised to reflect the brand, values, culture or message of the event.

As such, Quickfire Olympics can remain an energetic and fun experience, whilst also addressing more serious themes such as performance, collaboration, diversity of skills or shared goals; the app can be tailored to suit a brand’s identity, values and key content.

It is built around the Olympic spirit: igniting passion, the events, strategy, taking risks, the scoring, the podium and the medals.
