What is Blockbusters?
Blockbusters is a creative team-building activity in which teams become production studios and turn business messages, company values, or internal themes into short video trailers. Participants develop their own concept, assign roles, and work together to create a final product that combines storytelling, humor, collaboration, and clarity in conveying the message.
How does Blockbusters work?
The activity begins with a briefing where teams are given the theme, creative objective, and working materials. Each group develops its story, assigns roles, and films a trailer inspired by the company’s values or a custom theme.
- Teams are given a theme or a key message that they must turn into a trailer.
- Participants take on different roles: director, screenwriter, cinematographer, actors, prop master, or editor.
- Each team works with the resources at their disposal to create the scenes, pacing, and narrative of the trailer.
- The outcome depends on the clarity of the idea, creativity, collaboration, and the team's organization.
- The event concludes with a screening of the trailers, marking a first for all the teams.

When is Blockbusters the right choice?
Blockbusters is ideal for teams that need a creative, hands-on activity that can easily be tied to an internal message. It works well when a company wants to turn a business topic into a participatory experience, rather than just a presentation.
- team off-sites and retreats;
- internal kick-off meetings or engagement programs;
- corporate events centered around a brand, culture, or strategy;
- internal communication or organizational change programs;
- main activity before a social gathering or awards ceremony.
Why does Blockbusters deliver results?
The format works because it forces teams to turn an abstract idea into a tangible result. To produce a coherent trailer, participants must clarify the message, choose a creative direction, assign roles, and make quick decisions.
Blockbusters highlights behaviors that are crucial for teams: communicating under pressure, taking on roles, adaptability, time management, and the ability to turn ideas into tangible results. It is a hands-on activity in which every participant can contribute, whether through ideas, organization, acting, filming, or editing.
Where does it fit best in your event?
- as the main team-building activity in a day program;
- at an event focused on culture, values, or strategy;
- at a kick-off meeting where teams work on key messages for the coming year;
- in an engagement program for new, mixed, or cross-functional teams;
- before a social gathering, with trailers screened as entertainment.
