What is Grandma's Pantry?

Grandma's Pantry is an experiential team-building activity inspired by the tradition of preparing for winter, that familiar time when people gathered around the table, shared simple ingredients, and worked together.

Participants work in teams, prepare seasonal delicacies, and contribute to a shared “pantry” built through the efforts of each group. It is a warm, hands-on, and nostalgic experience, where collaboration comes naturally and differences in role or seniority fade away in the face of a common goal.

How does it work?

The experience begins as participants enter a space inspired by the atmosphere of autumn preparations. They are divided into teams, receive the day’s mission, and head to themed workshops centered around seasonal delicacies.

Each team contributes to a section of the “Pantry” through activities that require focus, coordination, patience, creativity, and hands-on work. Depending on the event’s objectives, the experience may also include teamwork challenges, resource management, or exchanges between teams.

Finally, all the contributions are brought together in a symbolic moment. The prepared items can be given to participants in the form of goodie bags or, depending on the format and logistics, can be donated to a charitable cause, ensuring that the experience has an impact even beyond the event.

When is Grandma's Pantry the right choice?

Grandma's Pantry is ideal for companies looking for a warm, hands-on, and memorable team-building activity that breaks away from traditional competitive formats. It’s an excellent choice when the goal is to foster genuine connections among participants in a relaxed yet well-structured setting.

It works very well for mixed teams with participants of different ages, roles, or levels of seniority, because each participant can naturally find their place in the process. It is especially ideal during the fall season, when the theme of preparing for winter creates a familiar and heartwarming atmosphere.

It blends in naturally with:

  • fall team-building activities
  • off-site events or retreats focused on building connections
  • engagement programs for mixed teams
  • internal events focused on organizational culture
  • corporate partnerships with local producers or CSR initiatives
  • team-building days, followed by dinner or socializing

Why does it deliver results?

Grandma’s Pantry works because it taps into a shared emotion: the memory of things done together, with patience, care, and purpose. In a world of deadlines, screens, and a fast pace, the activity brings participants back to something simple and authentic, working at the table, natural conversation, and the joy of a result created with their own hands.

The format fosters collaboration without artificial pressure. Some participants take the lead, others contribute ideas, while still others pay close attention to details or bring energy to the process. Everyone finds their place, and differences in roles, ages, or hierarchical levels become an advantage.

In its expanded form, the experience can also become a real-world exercise in teamwork, complete with assigned roles, limited resources, shifts, and interdependent tasks. Just like in an organization, no team can succeed entirely on its own; the final result emerges when everyone’s contributions come together in a shared “Pantry.”
