When it comes to the long-term health of a business, creativity is vital. Whether we are talking about the innovation of the departments or about internal programs that help to sediment creativity.

In management, LEGO principles are often used, from construction to destruction or restoration. Looking back, the Wright brothers used LEGO principles; also, in multinationals, they are used in recreation spaces, for example Google has LEGO toys in its libraries and offices to challenge the engineers.

Because the benefits of LEGO play were observed, AMA researchers conducted a study from which it turns out that “freestyle” activities with LEGO pieces develop a much more intense creative behavior than playing according to certain rules.

Nonconformist… or not.

Experiments were carried out on different groups of students in which they were offered a variety of LEGO pieces; some of them followed the instructions of the LEGO kit, and others approached the freestyle construction. After building the game, the students received SAT-type tests of creative thinking, elaboration or abstraction. You might think that the use of imagination is the conclusion, but things are not… exactly like that. Yes, it is an aspect that must be kept in mind, but so is the convergent thinking stimulated by the construction kit.

It’s all about the warm-up

Manoush Zomorodi recommends that the entire creative process be treated as such – starting with the warm-up. Exercises such as Pictionary, the cordless phone or free associations. Exercises like these will develop your divergent thinking.

“Some of the most significant ideas come about when someone sees a problem in a new way — often by combining disparate elements that initially seemed unrelated” (Dorie Clark, “Stand Out: How to Find Your Breakthrough Idea and Build a Following Around It .”)
CONCLUSION
LEGO is suitable for analytical, creative people, designers, artists and those passionate about storytelling.
